Our Story

A Proven Team with Nearly Two Decades of Experience

We have been crafting company history books and family business history books as a team for North America’s most prestigious firms, associations and families for nearly two decades, having come together under the Greenwich Publishing banner starting in the early 1990s. In 2010 the operating management, editorial and creative team at Greenwich spun out to establish Essex Publishing Group. To a person, the same team that produced every Greenwich book since 2002 is working for Essex Publishing Group, eager to tell your story. Our principals are:

W. John Hostnik, President and Publisher  John leads the management team at Essex Publishing Group, having done so successfully at Greenwich since succeeding that company’s founder in 2002. After joining Greenwich in 1996, John established the team—still intact today and now working for Essex Publishing—that has produced more than 80 company and family history books. John runs Essex’s corporate offices in St. Louis, Missouri.

Peter Hawes, Chief Content Officer  Peter directs Essex Publishing Group’s editorial, creative and digital media teams to translate clients’ needs into compelling books and other media. Peter played a similar role at Greenwich, having joined that company in 2002 following 18 years as an executive and consultant in public relations, marketing, employee communications and C-suite speechwriting. He manages Essex Publishing Group’s studio and editorial offices in Connecticut.

Clare Cunningham, Design  Clare brings more than 25 years of experience as a creative director and designer to Essex Publishing Group. A winner of awards from the New York Art Directors Club and the Society of Publication Designers, she designed nearly all of Greenwich Publishing’s books between 1990 and 2009. She is based at Essex Publishing Group’s Connecticut studio.
